Location: Palo Alto, CA or remote (USA)

Schedule: Part-time (15-20 hours/week)

Compensation: Paid, compensation commensurate with experience

Job Summary

EDF (Électricité de France) is a global, integrated energy company and the world’s largest producer of electricity. Their role is to provide R&D, innovation, and business development support to the EDF Group. This is done by creating partnerships and collaborations with leading research institutions and industries and the identification and development of innovative technologies and solutions.

EDF Innovation Lab (EDF IL)’s mission is twofold: first, to explore, analyze and research trends and disruptive technologies for EDF Group in North America, leveraging the innovation of Silicon Valley and building local partnerships; and second, to develop and test new markets, innovative businesses, and services, to support EDF Group’s growth in low-carbon energy sectors.

EDF IL is currently seeking a talented and highly motivated part-time team member to join the Net-Zero Carbon Solutions team. This role presents an opportunity to actively contribute to the transition of various sectors away from fossil fuels, a key step in achieving the global climate objectives. As part of this team, you will explore and analyze solutions for decarbonization and how different industries can meet their net-zero targets.

Key Responsibilities:

Regulatory and Policy Analysis:

  •  Investigate and assess regulatory frameworks that are shaping decarbonization efforts in different sectors.
  •  Analyze how current policies and future regulations affect the adoption of low-carbon technologies and the transition to net-zero emissions.

Sectoral Analysis:

  •  Identify the key drivers of carbon emissions across various sectors, such as energy, transportation, industry, and agriculture.
  •  Explore sector-specific solutions for decarbonization and the potential integration of renewable energy sources, technologies, and practices.
  •  Study the role of different actors (e.g., governments, industries, NGOs) in facilitating the transition.

 Technology Assessment:

  •  Analyze the role and potential of selected decarbonization technologies in reducing emissions within different sectors.
  •  Focus on innovations in energy storage, carbon capture, hydrogen, electrification, and other emerging solutions.

 Trend Mapping:

  •  Track the latest trends in energy markets, innovation, and technological advancements that contribute to decarbonization.
  •  Provide insights into market behavior, investment flows, and shifts toward sustainable business practices.

 Data and Report Development:

  •  Compile and synthesize data related to decarbonization efforts and regulatory developments.
  •  Assist in creating detailed reports, presentations, and policy briefs that provide actionable insights into the future of the energy transition.

Qualifications:

· Academic Background: Ideally studying a degree related to environmental science, sustainability, energy systems, or engineering.

· Skills: Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving abilities.

· Interest: A passion for decarbonization and contributing to global climate goals.

· Experience: Previous experience in sustainability, energy, or climate policy is an advantage but not required.

· Teamwork: Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with a diverse team of professionals.
